Yard Sale LOVE

This weekend reminded me of why I LOVE yard sales!

I get all giddy when I have that list of sales in my hand and the morning is full of possibilities!

First on Friday, I went to an estate sale. You just never know how estate sales are going to be. This one was professionally run and (in my opinion) those can tend to be pricey. This sale had a TON of stuff and they seemed ready to deal. I picked up a trunk that appears to be from someone in the military. My favorite part? It still has paper tags on each handle that talk about rules for putting this on a train!

The woman who lived there was a painter with some gorgeous pieces all stacked up on multiple shelves. I found several that spoke to me and picked all of these up for $10!

Then Saturday morning I had the gift of some time by myself! So with my (ice cold) Starbuck’s and organized list of sales in hand, I was off!

My first stop was a sale in my neighborhood. The folks at this sale were AWESOME. They told me everything they knew about the history of several pieces. I ended up with several things but I am saving those to reveal later. (sneaky huh? maybe there’s a hint in that first picture up there?)

Next stop an estate sale but I came out with nothing.

Lastly another yard sale and I found a couple of good finds there. The best? THIS…

For $8! woot woot! I’m going to recover it and it will most likely become a new head of our dining table. We will eventually be getting a new table and I don’t really want matchy matchy chairs so this would be a good start I think. Do you like it? I just love her. Such pretty lines, curves, and gorgeous back. Oh and I LOVE the price!

So, how did you do this weekend? Let me know in the comments below!

Yesterday’s Sales

My friend Karli (she really needs to get a blog so I can link to her!) and I went out early yesterday and hit 8 sales in total. Yes, we are yard sale shopping machines!

It might surprise you to know I did NOT come home with a car full of chairs this time (I started to buy one and Karli reminded me I already have a booth full of chairs…plus I wasn’t in love with it anyway).

Here’s a glimpse at some of my finds…

Yes, those are retro orange nesting tables!
Mirror and picture frame.
I’ll be painting the mirror frame

Lots of goodies…
I’ll reveal them another day!
Lantern & rotating earring/jewelry holder

Then there’s this chandelier…

Nope, it’s not old but it’s in great condition. I’m going to paint the brown and I’m taking suggestions…what color do you think I should paint it? It’s going to go in my booth so I want to do it a color (white?) that is sellable.

So…did you hit any sales this weekend? How did you do?

I Love Yard Sales

To start my weekend off right, I searched the paper and Craigslist for yard and estate sales (preferably one’s nearby since the price of gas is through the roof!). As usual, I plotted my strategy by determining the best route, considering the time of the sales, and prioritizing them based on the description.

I visited a couple of sales on Friday during my lunch hour (I work from home for my “real job” so it’s fairly easy for me to get away). I went to one estate sale which turned out to be like a store someone setup in their home. When I asked them about it they said it was stuff from several relatives plus some estate sales they had visited. Wow, the house was full! Here are some of the goodies from that sale…

I then checked out a sale nearby. This guy is a regular, he has sales a couple of times a year. I still haven’t figured out why he has the stuff that he does but he seems to really know his stuff (which is great if you have a question and bad when he is pricing!). I found a few good items at his sale…

I took it easy on Saturday and only visited one sale which was in the neighborhood next to mine. Let me tell you, when I walked into this woman’s backyard I thought they were going to have to force me off their property. I did NOT want to leave! First, her backyard landscaping is beautiful! And then I saw her cottage. This quaint little place in the back is FULL of beautiful things. Turns out her and her mother do estate sales and things she likes and/or doesn’t sell end up in her cottage. I loved the way she had things displayed. When I saw the cottage it was like the clouds parted and angels started singing from above! All I kept thinking was that THIS is what I wanted! Some day friends…some day.

Anyway, I ended up buying nothing (notta, zilch) from her HOWEVER, we had a lovely chat and now I have her email address. She’s probably having the lock on her cottage changed as we speak after she saw how I was looking at it! LOL

What did you all find over the weekend? Any goodies? Please share!
