Standing Out

Every Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET, Crafterminds holds a chat on Twitter. The topics are different each week…the chat this past Monday was all about how to make your blog stand out in the sea of blogs out there.

Dollarstorecrafts.com suggested asking readers how you stand out. I thought that was a great idea!

So I’m going to put you all on the spot right now. Tell me, what about me or my blog stands out to you? Why do you read my blog when there are so many other blogs out there? What would you like to hear more or less about?

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Please shout it from the rooftops! Well actually maybe putting it in the comments below or emailing me would be easier. :-)

I really appreciate any feedback you can give me. I’ve hinted before that I’m up to big things this year. One of those is to move my blog to WordPress so it will be a great time for me to update my blog, make things easier for all of you and ensure I’m focusing in the area(s) that you, my readers, want to hear about!

Thanks y’all :-)

Weekly Love #2

As I mentioned last week, I’ve started doing a blog post each week or so to share the various “hot” items i saw during the week. These could be exciting linky parties, new bloggers, or interesting posts. I heard from many of you that you were excited about this new weekly feature — thank you!

Below are the highlights for this week!

Debbiedoos Blogging and Blabbing – If you’ve never visited Debbie’s blog, you are missing out! Debbie has some wonderful posts and a special linky party on Monday’s just for blogging newbies! The latest news? Her home is featured in the latest edition of Country Woman Magazine! Please take a moment to go over & congratulate Debbie. :-)

N0elle.com – If you are a blogger that is trying to turn or has turned your blogging into a business, check out Noelle.com. Marie’s site is full of interesting tips including articles like “Useful tips for Twitter” and “How to monetize your website“. She also has some great tips for new bloggers here.

Crafterminds & Pinterest – Last week I mentioned Pinterest and Crafterminds. Well, they both came together this week when Crafterminds hosted a Pinterest discussion. They took it one step further and setup a Pinterest Linky party! As I said last week, if you aren’t on Pinterest yet you should be! Let me know and I’ll get you an invite (you have to be invited to join).

Where Bloggers Create – Did anyone participate in this last year? July 15th is the 3rd annual party to share your creative spaces! Click here to see the participants from last year. This looks like a lot of fun! Let me know if any of you are participating!

So that’s all for this week! If you found something cool this week you’d like to share, please leave a link in the comments!

Weekly Love #1

Anyone else have a hard time keeping up with all the various blogs each week (let alone each day!)? To help with this I’m going to do a blog post each week or so to share the various “hot” items i saw during the week. These could be exciting linky parties, new bloggers, or interesting posts.

Vintage Revivals had a great blog post this week titled “Ways You Can Make Money Blogging“. This was very timely as I was looking into sites like Social Spark and had not found anyone that had used it. If you are interested in making money from your blog, check it out!

Crafterminds is a site I’ve mentioned before. If you are on Twitter (and if you aren’t, why not?!) Crafterminds has a great chat on Monday’s at 4 ET. Each week is a different topic. This past Monday was all about promoting others. In that spirit, Angry Julie Monday did a great blog post you should check out.

Giggles, Glitz & Glam started a page where you can add your linky parties! Go take a look to see what linky parties you might be missing AND to add your own!

Lastly, I’ve mentioned Pinterest before and how wonderful it is! You can only join if you are invited…so…if you would like an invite just let me know and I’ll get you one! What is Pinterest? Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard. It lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.

If you see something else you think everyone might enjoy, feel free to email me or leave a comment!

J’adore Comments

He leaves comments, she leaves comments, wouldn’t you like to leave a comment too?! (hee hee)

I came across this awesome post on “crafterminds” the other day and it really struck a chord with me.

I’m not begging for your comments here, however, especially for those new to blogging, thought it was worth mentioning how important leaving a comment is!

Me, pouring over your beautiful comments :-)

I’ve had folks say to me lately “oh, I just love your blog, I read it all the time!” — I thought to myself really? I never remember xyz commenting before. I know there are folks out there reading my blog, it’s just always nice to have proof (in the way of a comment). PLUS, as a blogger, receiving comments & emails is the best way for me to know if I’m saying something you really like OR if I’m boring you to tears.

Even though I’m very techie, I sometimes wish I had a beautiful stack of letters in my box like this…

Anyway…take a look at what “crafterminds” said about commenting and remember, you never know where it will lead!

Happy blogging! (and commenting!)

Random Things I’ve Learned

As most of you know, I’ve only had this blog for a few months. Boy, have I learned a LOT thanks to all of you!

This past week has been highly educational! I’ve been on Twitter and have learned a ton from folks there. Plus I’ve been doing some of my own research.

I thought I’d share some of my findings here with you in case it might help someone else.

  • LinkWithin – want to have those cool “you might also like” graphics at the end of your posts? You can do that with “LinkWithin”! It’s simple and easy…just visit LinkWithin, then on the right side, fill in your blog address etc., click “get widget” and follow the instructions!
  • CrafterMinds – even if you are not a crafter, check out this blog. They have a ton of information to help you grow your blog!
  • Google Analytics – shows you how people find your site, how they use it, and more so you can find the best ways to improve results. It’s free! To signup & learn more, click here.
  • AdSense – this is easy to apply for (took them about a week to get back to me) and add to your blog. You can determine where you want the ads to appear on your site and then you earn money for every click. If you use Blogger, click on the “Monetize” tab for more information or visit the AdSense site.
  • Pinterest – this one was completely new to me! It’s basically an online bulletin board where you can “pin” up your favorite ideas…books, home decor, crafts, anything! Plus you can follow others and see what they are pinning. I haven’t even begun to understand everything you can do with this site. Click here to visit the Pinterest site. You can find me as junkernewbie if you’d like to follow me.
  • Twitter – I signed up for Twitter a while back with a personal account but hardly ever used it. I recently signed up again as junkernewbie and now just use it to follow & support other bloggers, companies or publications I like (ex.Country Living, Artful Blogging), etc. I also use it as a marketing tool to let folks know when I’ve posted a new blog entry, am having a contest, and more. Want to use Twitter but aren’t sure what to do or how to get started? I’ve used it enough now to be dangerous and am happy to help! Just leave a comment below or email me junkernewbie@gmail.com.

I want to hear from you! Who uses Twitter? Facebook? StumbleUpon? Pinterest? other things I haven’t mentioned? What’s working for you & what seems to be a waste of time?
