Standing Out

Every Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET, Crafterminds holds a chat on Twitter. The topics are different each week…the chat this past Monday was all about how to make your blog stand out in the sea of blogs out there.

Dollarstorecrafts.com suggested asking readers how you stand out. I thought that was a great idea!

So I’m going to put you all on the spot right now. Tell me, what about me or my blog stands out to you? Why do you read my blog when there are so many other blogs out there? What would you like to hear more or less about?

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Please shout it from the rooftops! Well actually maybe putting it in the comments below or emailing me would be easier. :-)

I really appreciate any feedback you can give me. I’ve hinted before that I’m up to big things this year. One of those is to move my blog to WordPress so it will be a great time for me to update my blog, make things easier for all of you and ensure I’m focusing in the area(s) that you, my readers, want to hear about!

Blogger Tips & Tricks – Part 2

A while back I posted some blogger tips and tricks and it was well received so I thought I might make this a regular series. Not every week but just whenever I find something I think you all might want to know about.

Topic for today…Blog Post Scheduling

Did you know you can schedule your blog posts? I actually do this for about 95% of mine. I find it easier to sit and write several posts at a time but obviously don’t want to post them all at once! Here’s how to do it…

  • When you are writing a new post, look down at the bottom left for something that says “Post Options”. Click it.
  • A bunch of new options appear like magic! Over in the last column on the right you’ll see “Post date and time”. The default is “Automatic”.
  • Choose “Scheduled at”.
  • You can now enter in a date and time.
  • When you are finished writing your post and have entered in your date/time for publishing, click “Publish Post” at the bottom of your screen.
  • When you return to your list of blog posts you’ll see it will now show it is scheduled and the date. Voila!

Blogger Tips & Tricks

I admit it, I’m a technology geek and LOVE the internet & email and spend way too much time on both! Occasionally, if you don’t mind, I’ll share some tips that I learn or come across from others that I think might help you as fellow bloggers or readers.

Donna over at Funky Junk Interiors did a fantastic job documenting Blog Tips. Even though I think I’m pretty internet savvy, I learned a LOT reading her tips. Below are some of the highlights…

  • Replying to Comments: It drives me crazy when someone leaves me an awesome comment and when I try to write them back it says “no reply” in the email address. So then I have to either go to that person’s profile and hope I can find an email address OR just post a comment back to them and hope they go back to read it. To avoid this issue, please go right now (I’ll wait while you put down your coffee/wine/chocolate) and update your settings. Go to…dashboard, then settings, then comments and scroll down to Comment Notification Email. Fill in your email and click save settings. There, that was easy peasy right?
  • Profile Settings: Along the same lines, there are several things you can do to make it easier for folks to comment on YOUR blog. Check them out here.
  • Electronic Signatures: Want a cool signature? I had no idea there were free signature creators available. Check this out. I made mine (at the bottom of this post) using those steps.
